Pattern Hack Lab is a six-week creative lab designed to help you move beyond following patterns and begin making confident creative decisions.
You've always wanted to hack a pattern but don't know where to start.
You want to create garments that suit your wardrobe and style.
You enjoy learning with a supportive small group.
You like the idea of guided creativity rather than being told exactly what to make.
A note about experience: Pattern Hack Lab isn’t designed as a beginner sewing course. You will have needed to a least have made the pattern you want to hack and also have a small amount of sewing knowledge. By the end of the six weeks you’ll have explored a new version of a pattern you already know and love, and probably more than just one version. Even more than that you will have a new way of looking at patterns that you can take forward. The Pattern Hack Lab is just the beginning.
Who is this for?
The Journey- 6 Weeks
Week 1 - Seeing Possibilities
Online GoogleMeet session. Meet the group and discover the Pattern Hack Lab philosophy. We'll explore Pattern DNA, siblings and the Anatomy of a Hack before you watch an inspiration video and begin filling your Field Notes.
Week 2 - Choosing Your Direction
Online GoogleMeet session. Bring one or two patterns you're considering. Have the makes to hand or images of them. Together we'll discuss possibilities, help each other explore ideas and leave to start planning for your first sibling. Watch an video to support sketching of ideas.
Week 3 - Drafting Clinic
Online GoogeMeet session. We'll troubleshoot ideas, answer questions and build confidence so you're ready to trace and draft your pattern. Watch video on using paper to draft pieces.
Week 4 - Studio Check-in
Share your progress, ask questions and receive encouragement while everyone works on their sibling.
Week 5 - Independent Making Week
There is no live session this week. This is your space to sew, experiment and let your idea develop. Continue sharing your progress and questions in our WhatsApp community, and I’ll be there to support.
Week 6 - Celebration
We'll celebrate everything you've learnt, share our siblings and reflect on how our way of looking at sewing patterns has changed. This does not have to be finished pieces. Celebrating can be any part of the journey.

This first round of the digital course is only available to Youtube Members at a Founding Member price of £85
Places are limited
Dates for this first course will be starting the week of 21st September 2026 and will end with our celebration in the week of 26th October 2026.
Because Pattern Hack Lab is an international cohort, live session times and days will be agreed once registration closes so they work as well as possible for everyone joining us around the world. We will probably vary the dats of the week and and try to be as fair as possible. When you sign up you will be asked to let me know days and times that generally work best for you. I will use everyone’s response, including their geographic location to create the final schedule. You will get the date and times of all sessions before we begin. All live sessions will be recorded and available to the founding cohort so you won’t miss out even if you cannot make every live session.

I created Pattern Hack Lab because I realised that the most valuable thing I'd learnt wasn't how to alter a pattern—it was how to look at one differently.

FAQs
Do I need to finish my garment to join in with the celebration?

No. Some people will finish a garment. Others may finish a toile or a drafted pattern. The aim is to develop confidence.
What sort of pattern should I choose?

You will need to select a pattern that you have already made and you know fits you well. We will use this as the base for the hacking. You can have more than one ideas for this pattern. I'll help you decide during Week Two which ones you will work on. I am also happy to have an email exchange to help you narrow down your choices.
What if I can't attend live?

Can I join from outside the UK?

Why hack patterns when there are so many different ones to buy?
Absolutely. Participants are welcome from anywhere in the world.
Pattern Hacking is brilliant for lots of reasons. 1) The benefits of play to the brain are well documents. What better than to play with fabric and patterns 2) Sewing is a brilliant hobby and it can be great to take it in a different direction rather than just sewing patterns. 3) Playing with patterns we love and making different variations can boost our self esteem, use our brain in different ways and also create amazing garments that no-one else will have.
